PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that substrates are ready to receive work, that substrate surface is clean, dry and free of grease, oil, powder, or any substances which could affect bond.
B. Do not begin work until concrete substrate has cured. Wood substrate should be dried to a maximum content of 12 percent. Metal substrate should be free of all rust and flaking material.
C. Beginning of installation means acceptance of existing substrate.
3.02 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
A. Perform preparation and cleaning procedures in compliance with coating manufacturer’s instructions for particular substrate conditions involved and as herein specified.
B. Clean substrate surface free of foreign matter; seal with Clear Acrylic Sealer where required.
C.
1. Concrete: Grind off all irregularities. Fill all hairline cracks with Patching Compound. Treat all moving cracks with 4” fiberglass mesh and 2 coats of Caulking Compound, as per manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Plywood: Prepare wood joints with 4” fiberglass mat and two coats X-R Roof Coating. Install flashing and counter flashing as per plans. Apply two thin coats of All Deck Patching Compound to all metal, to cover nails, and to feather out, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Metal: Clean off all loose material. Spot prime all rusted areas with rust inhibiting primer. Reinforce all seams/joints in metal roof with 4” fiberglass mat and two coats of X-R Roof Coating.
3.03 COATING APPLICATION
A. Apply in accordance with manufacturer’s printed instructions.
B. Use fiberglass mesh and All Deck Caulking to seal cracks, joints, seams, protrusions, perforations, termination paints and other open areas.
C. Make sure the area of application has been properly prepared. After all preparation and reinforcing has dried, apply X-R Roof Coating as follows: 1st coat approximately 60 sq. ft. per gallon, 2nd coat approximately 100 – 125 sq. ft. per gallon and 3rd coat approximately 150 – 200 sq. ft. per gallon.
D. Repair bubbles in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions for specific type of situation.
