Sure Foot Decorative Finish Specifications

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. SURE-FOOT® Decorative Finish: Liquid applied, polymer reinforced, cementous, fire resistant, decorative, non-skid, textured, coating system.

1.02 RELATED REFERENCES

A. Section 03300: Concrete substrate with medium broom finish.

A. ASTM D 2047 – Standard Test Method for Static Coefficient of Friction of Polish-Coated Floor Surfaces as Measured by the James Machine.

1.04 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Provide installed coating which meets or exceeds the following performance standards:

1. Coefficient of Friction, in accordance with ASTM C-1028, Wet/0.50 and Dry/0.50 minimum.

2. Abrasion Resistance when tested in accordance with ASTM C-501, Method for 1000 cycles of abrasion with a CS-17 wheel.

3. Adhesive Strength, when tested in accordance with ASTM D-903, using 180&Mac251;peel.

4. Ponding Water, after 14 days of standing with 1/4″ of water pressure.

5. Thermal Properties when exposed to 150 watt flood lamps: Average rate of heating and maximum temperature less than that of concrete; average rate of cooling greater than that of concrete.

B. Provide products which comply with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) V.O.C. rulings.

1.05 QUALIFICATIONS

A. Applicator: Company specializing in resinous matrix coating applications with documented experience.

B. Supervisor: Trained by product manufacturer.

1.06 MOCK-UP

A. Provide mock-up of 10 square feet of coating and 3 lineal feet of base under provisions of Section 01400.

B. Provide analysis of mock-up under provisions of Section 01400.

C. When accepted, mock-up will demonstrate minimum standard for the work. Mock-up may not remain as part of the work.

1.07 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit product data under provisions of Section 01340.

B. Submit two samples 12 x 12 inches in size illustrating color and variation.

C. Submit manufacturer’s installation instructions under provisions of Section 01340.

1.08 OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE DATA

A. Submit cleaning and maintenance data under provisions of Section 01700.

B. Include procedures for stain removal, repairing surface, and cleaning.

1.09 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver materials in original packages and containers with seals unbroken and bearing manufacturer’s labels containing brand name and directions for storage and mixing with other components.

B. Store materials to comply with manufacturer’s directions to prevent deterioration from moisture, heat, cold, direct sunlight, or other causes.

C. Keep materials from freezing.

1.10 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Comply with coating manufacturer’s directions for maintenance of substrate temperatures, ventilation, and other conditions required to execute and protect work.

1.11 WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer’s Warranty: SURE-FOOT is guaranteed to be technically and chemically sound.

B. Installer’s Warranty: One (1) year warranty including coverage against coating delamination from substrate and degradation of surface finish.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURER

2.02 MATERIALS

A. ALL DECK Acrylic Patching Compound: Use for filling small to medium sized cracks and depressions.

B. ALL DECK Clear Acrylic Sealer: Use to prepare concrete and aggregate concrete substrates if necessary.

C. SURE-FOOT Textured Undercoat: Acrylic resin and aggregate compound which when mixed, can be applied by brush, trowel or texture gun.

D. SURE-FOOT Top Coat: Final Acrylic coating application.

E. ALL DECK Splatter Finish: Optional sprayed acrylic Splatter Finish applied over finished surface for additional non-skid properties or decorative effect.

F. ALL DECK Confetti Finish: Optional multi-colored chips.

G. Stencils: Optional application of one or two colors of SURE-FOOT Top Coat applied through manufacturer’s standard stencils to create brick, tile, paver, or stone patterns.

2.03 COLORS

A. Provide SURE-FOOT in manufacturer’s standard color pallet.

(B. Provide SURE-FOOT in custom colors.)

(C. Provide contrasting ALL DECK Splatter Finish colors.)

(D. Provide ALL DECK Confetti Finish multi-colored chips.)

2.04 MIXING

A. Mix SURE-FOOT Decorative Finish components in accordance with manufacturer’s printed instructions.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that substrates are ready to receive work, that substrate surface is clean, dry and free of substances which could affect bond.

B. Do not begin work until concrete substrate has cured. Asphalt substrate should be cured at least 4 months.

C. Beginning of installation means acceptance of existing substrate.

3.02 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

A. Perform preparation and cleaning procedures in compliance with coating, manufacturer’s instructions for particular substrate conditions involved and as herein specified.

B. Clean substrate surface free of foreign matter; seal with ALL DECK Clear Acrylic Sealer where required.

C. Concrete: Grind off all irregularities. Fill all hairline cracks with ALL DECK Acrylic Patching Compound as per manufacturer’s instructions.

3.03 COATING APPLICATION

A. Apply in accordance with manufacturer’s printed instructions.

B. First coat is SURE-FOOT Texture Undercoat mixture consisting of polymer resin fortified aggregate compound. This coat can be applied by brush, trowel or hopper type texture gun. Follow manufacturer’s Mixing Table for application by the various methods. Apply SURE-FOOT Texture Undercoat to entire area, at coverage rate specified in manufacturer’s instructions for selected application method.

C. If there is a substantial time lapse between the first and second coat of application clean surface free of foreign matter in compliance with coating manufacturer’s instructions.

D. Final coat is SURE-FOOT Top Coat applied at the approximate rate of 110-125 square feet per gallon.

(E. Optional ALL DECK Splatter Finish applied at the approximate rate of 400 square feet per gallon. If applied in more than one (1) color, coverage rate increases proportionately to the number of colors used.)

(F. Optional ALL DECK Confetti Finish is applied at the approximate rate of 400 square feet per 4 pound container. Broadcast Confetti particles into wet Top Coat.)

3.04 PROTECTION

A. Protect coating materials from damage and wear during construction operation. Where temporary covering is required, comply with manufacturer’s recommendations for protective materials and method of application. Remove temporary covering prior to cleaning for final inspection.

B. Protect elements surrounding the work of this Section from damage of disfigurement.

C. Restrict traffic from application area until coating is dry; minimize traffic on coating for the approximate three week curing period.
